The Lake District flood, as shown in the pictures, was caused by extremely heavy rain and even affected Ireland, which suffered floods as high as 3 feet.

Michael Dunn, manager of the Bitter End pub in Cockermouth, had this to say about the UK Lake District flood:

“It has devastated the town. There is a lot of properties in Main Street, private shops, that have had their windows smashed in by the force of the water and by debris in the water.

The unprecedented damage and calamity caused by the Lake District flood has already greatly affected hundreds of people. The Lake District flood pictures resemble those experienced by Filipinos with Typhoon Ondoy. Dunn added about the damage:

“There were cars floating down the street. It will be a long time before Cockermouth recovers from this.”

Record rainfall was experienced by Cockermouth, which led to severe Lake District flooding. The Environment Agency recorded 12.3 inches of rain in 24 hours. The Lake District flood forced military helicopters to winch several people to safety and emergency workers to toil non-stop in inflatable boats to rescue affected people.

British soldiers also went from one house to another to search for those trapped by the Lake District floods. More than 200 people have already been rescued as at least 960 homes have been flooded.
