The latest Typhoon Ondoy updates reveal that 240 people have died caused by the severe flooding and record rainfall that devastated the Philippines. Authorities expect the typhoon Ondoy death toll to rise even more as rescuers are just starting their operations in some villages that have been blocked off by wrecked cars and mounting debris.
37 are still missing, according to the latest typhoon updates. Typhoon Ondoy flooded the Philippines and dropped a month’s of rain on the country in merely 12 hours. It was revealed that the Ondoy flood is the worst flood to hit the country in more than 40 years.
More than 7,900 people have been rescued from atop roofs and other areas where they were left stranded. Defense Secretary and 2010 Presidential hopeful Gilbert Teodoro said:
“We are trying our level best to provide basic necessities, but the potential for a more serious situation is there. We cannot wait for that to happen.”
Typhoon Ondoy pictures reveal that cars were overturned, streets were extremely flooded, and people were in neck-deep waters. Typhoon Ondoy videos show the actual situation, with people pleading for help as they were left stranded in streets and flooding houses.
The Philippine government has already asked for resources from other countries, especially since there seems to be another typhoon brewing east of the country.
That new typhoon could hit the Philippines as early as Friday.
