Watch Ascoli-Reggina “fair play” goal in Italy (VIDEO)

07 December 2009

Watch the fair play goal video in the Ascoli-Reggina football match in Italy below. The fair play goal video shows Ascoli allowing Reggina to score a goal as an act of fair play and sportsmanship.
But before that, Vincenzo Sommese of Ascoli scored a goal after Carlos Valdez of Reggina got injured and attempted to kick the ball out of bounds to stop play. As shown in the fair play goal video below, Sommese, not knowing this was the case intercepted the ball and set up Mirko Antenucci for a goal.
Reggina players protested vehemently, as can be seen in the fair play goal video, and soon after a brawl ensued. After the brawl had subsided, Ascoli allowed Reggina to score, thus inciting the fair play goal.
Ascoli manager Bepi Pillon said this about the fair play goal:
“We made the decision [to let Reggina score] all together, there is no single person responsible for it. We were locked in the changing rooms for two hours after the game to avoid the protests. There is too much exasperation in Italy, too many interests that force you to look only at the results. It’s not fun like this.”
The fair play goal between Ascoli and Reggina is now being investigated. Authorities fear that this may have implications of match fixing and not sportsmanship. The fair play goal of Ascoli and Reggina will surely be a piece of evidence that will reveal a lot in the investigations.

19 October 2009

Jasper Howard of the University of Connecticut football team was stabbed to death hours after helping the team to a homecoming victory. Howard, the starting cornerback of UConn and a soon-to-be fatherm, was stabbed to death at the UConn Student Union.
The 20-year-old Jasper Howard and another student were stabbed during a fight at the UConn Student Union after a fire alarm was pulled right around 12:30 AM.
There are no suspects yet in the Howard UConn stabbing. Connecticut coach Randy Edsall revealed that his team was devastated over the loss of Howard. Jasper Howard reportedly came to the school to get away from the violence on the streets. He was the first person in his family to go to college. UConn coach Edsall added:
“I know this. He loved UConn; he loved his teammates; he loved everything about this.”
Edsall added further that the Howard UConn stabbing was tragic because he was about to become a father with his girlfriend.
Joanglia Howard, Jasper’s mother, described him as a ‘good kid’ who never got into trouble. She stated:
“All I wanted him to do was go to school and get an education, and he was doing what I asked him to do.”
Desi Cullen, UConn punter and team captain, stated about the death of his teammate in the Howard UConn stabbing:
“As Jazz looks down on us, I can promise him and his family, that son or daughter will have 105 uncles. And we will do what it takes to not get through this, but to grow from it.”
UConn Police Major Ronald Blicher said that Howard was stabbed to death after a fight that broke out between two groups, which occurred after a fire alarm went off in the student center. Around 300 people had to evacuate as a result, leaving police to interview with utmost scrutiny the remaining witnesses in the Howard UConn stabbing.

Darren Bent, Sunderland beach ball goal (VIDEO)

18 October 2009

Watch the video of Darren Bent’s beach ball goal in the Sunderland-Liverpool match. Darren Bent of Sunderland scored a goal against Liverpool when his goal attempt hit a red beach ball and bounced into the back of the net in their Premier League soccer match.
The Darren Bent beach ball goal had first been initiated when a red beach ball floated onto the soccer field in the opening minutes of the game between Sunderland and Liverpool in the Premier League. Bent took a shot that Pepe Reina, the goalkeeper of Liverpool, appeared to have covered. But Bent’s ball hit the red beach ball, deflecting the soccer ball’s path past Reina and into the back of the net, thus causing the now infamous Darren Bent beach ball goal.
Strange as it may seem, the beach ball goal was counted and not waved off by the referees. It came at the fifth minute of the soccer match at the Stadium of Light.
Having been the only goal of the soccer match, Liverpool lost to Sunderland 1-0, pulling them further out of title contention of the Premier League. Worse, it had been found out that the red beach ball, the culprit of the Darren Bent beach ball goal, was thrown onto the field by a Liverpool fan.
Rafa Benitez, manager of soccer team Liverpool, had this to say about the loss:
“We didn’t play well but we had bad luck.”

See the customized Nike shoes of Dunta Robinson that got him fined below. Houston Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson was fined $25,000 for wearing customized Nike cleats which read “Pay Me Rick” on the heels during the season opener of Houston. Robinson obviously was sending the message to Houston Texans GM Rick Smith who had failed to sign the cornerback to a long-term deal during the offseason.
Dunta Robinson had this to say about his “Pay Me Rick” shoes tirade:
“It’s just a little reminder for myself what I’m playing for. It’s a reminder that this is what we’re here for.”
When asked if he still thought about it, Robinson replied:
“It was over a long time ago. I’ve moved on.”
Before the “Pay Me Rick” shoes controversy, Dunta Robinson sat out the Houston Texans training camp because of the contract dispute. He later on signed a one-year contract some time before the football season began that entitled him to receive $9.957 million.

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

09 September 2009

LeGarrette Blount did not practice with the Oregon Ducks on Monday after punching Byron Hout of the Boise State Broncos in their season opener. Blount did not practice with the Ducks even though he was permitted to.
Oregon Ducks Coach Chip Kelly said he did not expect Blount to practice and added:
“People I think should respect he’s been through a lot the past few days. He’s got to make some decisions on where he is and everything. But we have a plan in place for him and when he decides to come back.”
Blount punched Hout on the jaw after the Ducks’ 19-8 loss to the Broncos. Hout was brought down to his knees. This led to Blount’s suspension by Coach Kelly.
Over the weekend, LeGarrette Blount and Coach Chip Kelly argued that Byron Hout and Boise State coach Chris Petersen should apologize for Hout’s taunting. Hout yelled in Blount’s face and tapped him on the shoulder that initiated the Blount punch.

Byron Hout was celebrating the victory by taunting Blount. Hout yelled at running back Blount and tapped his shoulder pad. In retalitaion, Blount punched Hout right on the jaw, knocking him down to his knees. Boise State coach Chris Petersen could not pull Hout away in time before the Blount punch.
In addition, Blount also had to be restrained by police from fans heckling him on the way to the locker room. He then came to his sesnses and apologized:
“It was just something that I shouldn’t have done. I lost my head.”
Chip Kelly, Oregon’s first-year coach, told a remorseful Blount about his decision after reviewing tape of the punch. Being a senior, Blount’s playing days in Eugene are over.
Kelly explains his reaction towards the Blount punch on Hout:
“That’s not what we’re all about. That’s not what we coach. That’s not what we stand for and it’s unacceptable.”
Kelly added:
“He is taking this very hard. He understands he made a mistake and he has to pay for the mistake. But we’re not going to throw LeGarrette Blount out on the street.”
Le Garrette Blount’s suspension for punching Byron Hout includes bowl games. Luckily for him, he will remain on scholarship and can still practice with the team.

LeGarrette Blount was suspended for all the remaining games of the Oregon Ducks‘ college football season for punching Boise State Broncos defensive end Byron Hout on the jaw. Continue Reading
