Floyd Mayweather, Jr. weighed in at 146 lbs, two pounds heavier than the catchweight limit for his boxing fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez, on the other hand, easily made weight – two pounds below the limit. The Mayweather-Marquez fight will happen  at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
The contract for the Mayweather-Marquez fight stipulates a catchweight limit of 144 lbs, three below the welterweight limit of boxing. The weight in excess of the agreen upon catchweight limit will cost “Money” Mayweather $300,000 per pound. This means that the lighweight champion Marquez will get an additional $600,000 on top of his $3.2 million guarantee.
Though a clear increase in the paycheck of Marquez, it still is a farcry from Mayweather’s, who will be guaranteed $10 million. This will even increase dramatically when pay-per-view revenues are accounted for.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has always demanded a lot of money from his fights because he has long been the #1 pound-for-pound (P4P) fighter before he retired. He thus earned the moniker “Money” and said the following on the Mayweather-Marquez HBO video special:
“We got the big-boy mansion. We got Lambos. We got Rolls-Royces. We got a lot of stuff. But guess what the difference is between me and everybody else? My s— is paid for.”
Juan Manuel Marquez Marquez, a native of Mexico, has never fought above the weight of 135 pounds, comfortably made 142 pounds, two less than the 144-pound contract weight.
