David Letterman brought Stephanie Birkitt, the assistant he had slept with, on Caribbean vacations with his wife, Regina, and their young son. At the time, Regina Lasko had no idea that the TV show host was having an extramarital affair with his assistant, who apparently receives $200,000 a year for her job at the Late Show.
Many have already criticized David Letterman for even bringing Birkitt on these trips even with 6-year-old son Harry. Regina Lasko believed that Birkitt was only a colleague at that time, especially because Letterman had brought other friends and co-workers to such trips.
Letterman and the suspect of his extramarital affair, Birkitt, had taken hikes together the multi-millionaire TV show host’s eastern Montana ranch. David Letterman admitted his affairs on national television just recently. Since appearing on the Late Show again, Letterman apologized to his wife for his actions, whom he described as “horribly hurt” by the revelations.
CBS News journalist Robert “Joe” Halderman is the prime suspect of the alleged plot to shame Letterman by forcing him to admit on TV his affairs. Halderman first learned of the affair in December when he read his then-girlfriend Birkitt’s diaries. Stephanie vowed to stop the affair and accordingly, they decided to stay together.
But after some time, Halderman spotted the TV show host and his then-girlfriend again making out in a parked car in the driveway of his and Birkitt’s home. This led to his plot to shame Letterman and thus forcing the Late Show host to admit his affairs on national TV.
