27 September 2009

Vitali Klitschko defeated Chris Arreola to retain the World Boxing Council (WBC) Heavyweight Title via Technical Knockout (TKO) at the end of the 10th round. In the Klitschko VS. Arreola fight, Vitali Klitschko utlized his jab to keep Chris Arreola at bay and flustered the challenger all throughout the boxing match, much as how Floyd Mayweather defeated Juan Manuel Marquez a week earlier.
Klitschko thus retains his WBC Heavyweight Championship at the Staples Center, as he bloodied Arreola’s face early in the fight. Circling and jabbing Arreola constantly, Vitali almost shut the eyes of the challenger midway through the fight.
Henry Ramirez, the trainer of Chris Arreola, stopped the fight on behalf of his boxer at the end of the tenth round, which Arreola did not like. Ramirez stated about the Klitschko VS. Arreola results:
“He was taking too much punishment. When I told him I was going to stop the fight, he was irate. It was not an easy decision, but we had discussed it and I had to do it.”
The punches landed percentages revealed the results of the Klitschko-Arreola fight, as Vitaly Klitschko landed 301 of 802 punches for a 38% clip, while Chris Arreola only managed to land 86 of his 331 punches for a lowly 26%. In addition, the boxer from Ukraine landed a 151 of 283 power punches for 53 percent clip.
Before Klitschko defeated Arreola via TKO, Arreola kept coming back. Klitschko stated about the TKO:
“I was surprised he did not come out. This was a hard fight, like I expected. I know I was hurting him a lot, but he has a great, great chin. He’s a tough fighter, but I worked the body.”
Regardless of the Klitschko VS. Arreola fight results, Klitschko was ahead on all three scorecards. He was up 99-91 on two scorecards while one judge had it 100-89.

Betting odds have the Ukrainian a 6-1 favorite in the Klitschko-Arreola boxing fight. This does not deter Chris Arreola, who is ready and confident about the fight, saying:
“I’m here to win the title,” said Arreola, 28, looking much slimmer than the opening press conference in August. “Its not about the money, the money will always be there.”
The Klitschko VS. Arreola promises to be a war. Vitali Klitschko, however, believes he will win that war with world class training and valuable ring experience. He stated:
“After five weeks of training, 100 miles running, 120 rounds of sparring I know who will be the winner. I’m happy to be fighting a tough guy like Chris Arreola. I’ll show him what experience means in the ring.”

20 September 2009

Watch the video interview of Floyd Mayweather, Jr. after his boxing win over Juan Manuel Marquez below. The post-fight interview of Mayweather consisted mainly of his dodging weight issues, getting annoyed by the interviewer, and a scuffle with potential opponent “Sugar” Shane Mosley.
Mayweather, upon getting irritated by Mosely and the interviewer who frequently cut him off, told the interviewer:
“I’m gonna do the talking because you’re doing too much talking.”
The Mayweather post-fight interview video also showed Floyd dodging weight issues and never got started with having Manny Pacquiao as his next opponent. The interviewer also stopped Mayweather from thanking his sponsors, which probably drew the ire of “Money”.
In the end, a Mayweather almost fought with Mosley before they were separated by Golden Boy staff. Mosley interrupted the Mayweather interview and is probably looking to get into the mix with Mayweather before Pacquiao can, who is set to square off against Miguel Cotto in the next big boxing event.

It was merely a sign of things to come for Juan Manuel, who was thoroughly outclassed by “Money” for the next 10 rounds. Marquez was visibly slower, weaker, and older than his opponent, Mayweather, who got into a scuffle with “Sugar” Shane Mosley and the ring interviewer after the fight.
The punches landed percentage was a clear indicator of the Mayweather-Marquez results. Floyd connected on 290/493 for a 59% connect percentage, while Marquez was a lowly 69-583 for 12%.
