Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden in a new audiotape proclaimed President Barack Obama powerless to stop the war in Afghanistan and even threatened to strengthen guerrilla warfare there.  The bin Laden audiotape was released to mark the anniversary of the infamous Septemer 11 attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in the United States.
The tape was posted on Islamic militant Web sites a couple of days after the eight-year anniversary of the 2001 9/11 suicide plane hijackings. Osama said in the 11-minute tape that Obama is merely following the same policies of George W. Bush. Osama also urged Americans to “liberate” themselves from the influence of “neo-conservatives and the Israeli lobby.”
Osama Bin Laden also followed by saying that al-Qaida attacked the United States in retaliation for the country’s support for Israel. Bin Laden stated:
“If you end the war, so let it be. But if it is otherwise, all we will do is continue the war of attrition against you on all possible axes.”
Osama also continued by saying:
“You are waging a hopeless and losing war for the benefit of others, a war the end of which is not visible on the horizon.”

al-Qaida group threatens China

The Turkistan Islamic Part, a group linked to al-Qaida that threatened to disrupt last year’s Beijing Olympics, is vowing to avenge Muslim Uighurs who died in ethnic violence with the Chinese earlier this month.

The Turkistan Islamic Party condemned the violence between Chinese and Uighurs in the northwestern Xinjiang region which stemmed from a brawl between the two sides in southern China in June.

Seyfullah, military commander of the Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP), said in a video issued on jihadist Web forums this week that the two incidents were examples of “genocide” perpetrated by the Chinese government. An excerpt of the translated video:

“Know that this Muslim people have men who will take revenge for them. Soon, the horsemen of Allah will attack you, Allah willing. So lie in wait; indeed, we lie in wait with you.”

For a group so powerful it can threaten the safety of the Beijing Olympics, what will this mean for China and for the rest of the world?
