See the photoshopped Ralph Lauren model ad picture below. Ralph Lauren has been criticized for an edited, photoshopped ad of a model who was eventually fired from the company. Having altered a photo of model Filippa Hamilton enraged many after the picture was posted online and Ralph Lauren lawyers attempted to sue for copyright infringement.
Filippa Hamilton, the photoshopped Ralph Lauren model who was fired, is 23 years old, 5′10″ and weighs a healthy 120 pounds, far from her depicted weight and body typed showed in the picture of the Ralph Lauren ad. Hamilton was, according to her, fired because she was deemed overweight. She stated about the photoshopped Ralph Lauren ad controversy:
“They fired me because they said I was overweight and I couldn’t fit in their clothes anymore. I was shocked to see that super skinny girl with my face… It’s very sad, I think, that Ralph Lauren could do something like that.”
Though Ralph Lauren fired Filippa Hamilton six months ago, the clothing company continued to use her image, editing and using presumably Photoshop to make her arms, waist, thighs, and the rest of her body appear skinnier.
The company is making efforts to move on from the photoshopped Ralph Lauren print ad, stating:
“The image in question was mistakenly released and used in a department store in Japan and was not the approved image which ran in the U.S.”
Because of the picture of the Ralph Lauren ad that spread over the internet like wildfire, Ralph Lauren, in order to distance itself from the outrage of photoshopping a model to look frail thin, eventually issued this apology:
“For over 42 years we have built a brand based on quality and integrity. After further investigation, we have learned that we are responsible for the poor imaging and retouching that resulted in a very distorted image of a woman’s body. We have addressed the problem and going forward will take every precaution to ensure that the caliber of our artwork represents our brand appropriately.”
