Microsoft and Yahoo! merge against Google

Yahoo! and Microsoft team up against Google.

After an unsuccessful $47.5 billion takeover attempt, Microsoft is once again in talks with Yahoo!. This time, to forming a partnership on Internet search. The agreement, which could be reached as early as Wednesday would unite the Microsoft and Yahoo! against internet search market leader Google.

Moreover, this would mean that Yahoo! would have to agree to use Microsoft‘s new Bing search engine on its own sites. Bing has been well-received in reviews and most especially by Yahoo! Chief Executive Carol Bartz. She added:

“I think Bing is actually a good product. Microsoft deserves kudos for Bing.”

Yahoo! would also stand to gain a raise in search-advertising sales because it could sell text ads not just on its own pages bu also next to Microsoft sites.

Microsoft, on the other hand, would have access to an expansive range of search queries available Yahoo!’s search engine.

In the search market, Google commands 65 percent share while Yahoo! and Microsoft trail far behind with 19.6 percent and 8.4 percent, respectively.
