The balloon boy hoax of Fort Collins, Colorado worried millions as everyone believed that Falcon Heene, son of Richard and Mayumi Heene, had been trapped inside a UFO-shaped balloon that floated 50 miles above the ground and across two counties.
Recently, it had been revealed that the balloon boy stunt had been planned for two weeks and was simply a marketing ploy by Richard and Mayumi Heene, in an effort to land them a reality TV deal in Los Angeles. Before the whole balloon boy hoax stunt, the Heenes, shown in a Heene family picture below, had already appeared on the ABC reality show “Wife Swap”.
Larimer County Sheriff Jim Alderden had surmised on the possibility of media outlets being involved in the balloon boy hoax. Charges will be faced by the Heene parents for conspiracy, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, making a false report to authorities, and attempting to influence a public servant. It is also possible for Richard and Mayumi Heene will face six years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
The three Heene kids, including balloon boy Falcon Heene, will probably not face charges because they are still too young, as shown in the Heene family picture below. The oldest Heene son is only 10 years old.
